Trauma in Practice:
A clear, practical and TA-informed pathway through trauma work

Trauma in Practice is a five-day training course for therapists who want a clear, clinically grounded understanding of trauma and how to work with it safely. It’s designed for counsellors and psychotherapists who have been seeing clients for at least a year and want to deepen their confidence in assessment, formulation and practical intervention—without drifting into myth, jargon or over-complication. The focus is on real-world practice with a robust theoretical and research driven framework.

The course offers a structured yet spacious learning environment. Each day combines short teaching segments with discussion, reflective exercises and small-group tasks. The aim is not to turn anyone into a “trauma specialist,” but to strengthen clinical judgement, sharpen assessment skills and expand the therapist’s ability to recognise what is happening in the room and why. There is space to think, question, practise and integrate the material in a way that fits your clinical identity.

A core part of the programme is the integration of Transactional Analysis. TA is used as a framework for understanding trauma’s impact on ego states, scripts, shame, relational patterns and dissociation. This sits alongside contemporary trauma thinking, developmental perspectives, somatic awareness and practical grounding skills. TA forms one full day of the course and is woven throughout the clinical examples and discussions across the week. The teaching draws from relational, developmental, neurobiological and systemic perspectives. This includes attention to societal trauma, transgenerational trauma, attachment ruptures and the wider contexts in which symptoms form. The course also incorporates structured trauma-informed assessment, decision-making models and ways of working that support safe therapeutic pacing for both clients and practitioners.
